Carly's 2 Cents: If I Talk About God My Record Won’t Get Played?

I’m sure everyone has heard the song on today’s blog’s post, “Jesus Walks” off  Kanye’s critically acclaimed debut album College Dropout, especially considering it is essentially the song that launched Kanye West’s career and raised the bar for Hip-Hop in America. I resurfaced College Dropout recently after a nostalgic Pandora experience and cant get enough of it. While My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is fantastic and the only other Kanye album to rival College Dropout’s level of grandeur, nothing compares to the expression of institutionalized racism, personal struggles and challenges to society’s expectations presented creatively and melodically on this album.  While I know Kanye West isn’t always a fan favorite (Tyler is probably going to kill me for making this my post :-)) the song is too good to not appreciate because of hang-ups with Kanye’s sporadic (okay, maybe a little more then sporadic..) idiotic personal conduct. For all the Kanye haters out there, which I know are many (I attended Bonnaroo this past year…) it is hard to deny this song’s brilliance. Oh yeah, and it was #273 on Rolling Stone’s “Top 500 Greatest Songs of all Time” but I don’t think I’ve heard of that magazine…
